The Vajont Dam, Italy: The Reservoir Spills Over the Dam

Location: 48o 16' 02" N, 012o 19' 45" E.

The most remarkable thing about the Vajont dam disaster was that much of the water went around the dam rather than over it. There was only a small amount of damage to the top of the dam and the rest of the dam remained intact.
