Ajo, Arizona

Steven Dutch, Professor Emeritus, Natural and Applied Sciences, Universityof Wisconsin - Green Bay

Ajo, Arizona is a far out of the way town in southern Arizona with a picturesque Mexican style plaza.
In the 1880's, copper mined here was sent by ship around Cape Horn to Wales for refining. The New Cornelia Mine shown here operated until 1985.

Possibly rivaling Big Bend National Park for title of most Off-The Beaten-Path National Park.
