Gateway Arch, St. Louis, Missouri

Steven Dutch, Professor Emeritus, Natural and Applied Sciences, University of Wisconsin - Green Bay

Approaching the arch from the east.
Bridges across the Mississippi.
Visitors unfamiliar with Missouri might assume this is the state capitol, but it's really the historic court house.
Above: flags of the U.S., Missouri, and the city of St. Louis, symbolizing its French origins and its location at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers.

Left and below: river traffic.
The "elevator" is actually a steep inclined railway with tilting pod cars.
Left and below, views of St. Louis from the arch.

Views of the Mississippi.
It's a bit cramped at the top, and the windows are small.
Waiting for the ride down.

Above: I have no idea what this was, but it was pretty big.
