Find the Intersection of a Plane With a Simple Slope

Steven Dutch, Professor Emeritus, Natural and Applied Sciences, University of Wisconsin - Green Bay

Often, especially in small areas, the local topographic surface is approximately a plane. Finding the map trace of a planar structure amounts to finding the intersection of two planes

Example

1. Find the intersection of the dike with the hillside.

2. Construct structure contours on the dike

3. Locate the intersections of like contours.

4. Draw the outcrop trace of the dike. Note that it is not parallel to the strike.
