Find the Strike and Dip of a Plane, Given its Pole

Example

1. Find the strike and dip of the plane whose pole is plotted here.

2. Rotate the pole until it lies on the equator.

3. Count off the dip from the center of the net. The great circle (shown in light green) lies 90 degrees away. Mark the strike of the plane at the ends of the N-S meridian.

4. Rotate the overlay to its original position and measure the strike. With a little practice it becomes easier simply to visualize the final result without having to go through these steps, but it's always good to check, since it can be very easy to get turned around in stereonet constructions.
