Mars has at least three huge impact basins. All were seen from Earth by telescopic observers. Argyre is at lower left, Hellas at lower right and Isidis above right center. The lowest points on Mars are in the Hellas Basin. A great elevated ring surrounds Hellas and may be material blasted out by the impact.

At far left is the Tharsis Plateau. Vallis Marineris is the deep trough extending in from the left edge.
