Carson Pass is on California 88. The highway runs northeast from Jackson overthe pass then connects to several routes to Lake Tahoe, Carson City, and EbbetsPass.
Markleeville is the county seat of Alpine County, the least populous county in California. I used to think of this as the most inaccessible part of California and it is - from California - but it's at risk of being invaded by urban sprawl from Reno and Carson City.
North of Markleeville are road cuts through lahar deposits.
