Steven Dutch, Professor Emeritus, Natural and Applied Sciences, Universityof Wisconsin - Green Bay
The Sierra Nevada is famous for its exfoliated domes. The locality below offers a close-up view of exfoliation.
The most spectacular point on the Tioga Road, offering a view down Tenaya Canyon to the west and a view of Half Dome, and a panorama of Tenaya Lake to the east.
The peak at mid-left in the panorama below is Clouds Rest. During a visit in the late 1800's, the Czar of Russia kept irritating his guides by always pointing out that some view in the Alps or Himalayas was more magnificent. When the party got to the top of Clouds Rest, he said "I salute the grandestview in the world!"
