Sea Stacks, Gibbs Island, Antarctica

Steven Dutch, Professor Emeritus, Natural and Applied Sciences, University of Wisconsin - Green Bay

When rocky headlands are eroded by the sea, the last remnants are often isolated rocks called sea stacks. These are on the north shore of Gibbs Island, Antarctica. Notice there is no snow or ice in the picture. Not everything in Antarctica is covered by ice. Just most of it.
