The myriad thrust faults show that Tibet is not a single plate but a mosaic of accreted terranes.
India appears nestled into a notch, almost lika a spacecraft docking. In reality, India created the notch by pushing blocks of Asia out of the way. To the west, Eurasia is spreading apart from North America, but to the east, Eurasia is overriding the Pacific. Thus, India cannot push crust out of the way to the west but can push crust eastward.
